DECODED: Tutti Frutti
Our newest blog feature DECODED, is geared towards breaking down the buzz worthy lifestyle experiences that have the people talking and we had to start off with the newly opened frozen yogurt shop, Tutti Frutti.
The buzz worthy establishment located at the Loshusan Plaza in Barbican has been the subject of queries and proclamations of adoration and lust for the past few days. Social media mavens made it their point of duty to profess their undying love for the frozen yogurt (also affectionately known as froyo). This ranged from delectable Instagram pictures with drizzled decadence to tweets that simply stated that it was needed now almost like a fix that could not be suppressed.
However with any sensation especially with roots in social media there is scepticism that it is merely hype and that with such built up anticipation it will only be met with deflated expectations. We want to set the record straight and give you the scoop on Tutti Frutti by sharing our experience.
We stepped into this unknown yet colourful and busy terrain littered with kids hopped up on sugar rushes, couples taking an easy Saturday afternoon and families enjoying their post dinner treat. It hits you that there is no right or wrong way to approach the back of the shop where the froyo was just waiting to be dispensed. With the assistance of one of the gracious store attendants, we began to sample flavours ranging from those picked from trees to those with a much more sinful origin. All concerns for a possible sugar coma were tossed to the wind as we chose the flavours of Cookies and Cream, Birthday Cake and Blueberry Cheesecake loaded with mango, chocolate kisses, graham crackers and other “diet is not an issue” toppings.
We waited for the verdict from the scale and voila, we had successfully treated ourselves to an easy afternoon dessert for less than $1000.00
DECODE: Why the buzz surrounding Tutti Frutti?
We think that the reason for this is the fact that customers have an all access pass to what they want and how much of it they want and the only restriction is located in their purse. This is contrary to the usual structure where you are confined to a glass viewing of your dessert and having your portions decided for you. Simply put, customers feel empowered, alive and ready to sink spoons into mountains of delicious creamy goodness with a reckless abandon almost as if saying I came, I saw, I froyoed.
HOW TO GET FROYO LIKE A PRO
1. Price Point
At J$55.00 an ounce, you are not restricted to one set price and thus can comfortably eat with your eyes as long as the weight of the cup and the financial allowances of your purse or wallet will allow.
2. Froyo and Toppings
Because of the flexible price point and the dependence on weight, you might feel cautious of how you fill your cup. We encourage you to enjoy yourself your first time around and get a feel for the flavours you might end up taking by utilising the sampling option. After doing that you can select your preferred flavours and if positioned beside each other there is a lever in the middle which allows you to mix them. This might end up being a better call instead of dispensing them individually if you are concerned about the cost for the weight.
In terms of which flavours we recommend, each palette is different but we would recommend that you keep your fruity flavours separate from your creamy flavours and use the toppings to balance out the overall taste.
Great news guys, toppings do not attract an additional cost because in our opinion, Tutti Frutti is all about weighing the enjoyment of delicious dessert against decision and financial slavery. So at J$55.00 an ounce you can have anything your imagination can conceive.
3. Check Out
When we went it was busy and we presume this will be an on-going feature because of the buzz surrounding it so we suggest that you walk with cash so you can be in and out of the line.
Points of Criticism
Objectively speaking the colourful aesthetic and bubbly feel was somewhat washed out by the chaotic environment created by the lack of a line or system to orderly go around for the dispensing of the frozen yogurt. However we presume that this may have been on purpose since the vibe is that of freedom of choice which seems to be a great marketing tool and if it is working out for them then why change it. This was also combated by the great customer service we experienced as within minutes of our being there, we were asked on three separate occasions by three store attendants if we were being assisted and getting through. We presume that we looked like a fish out of water amongst the yogurt dispensing pros.
Taste of Yogurt
Unfortunately we realised that after being mixed and melted the distinct tastes that allured us from sampling soon became one flavour with the only distinguishable accents being the toppings we had chosen. However with such a wide assortment of toppings it is possible to use the frozen yogurt as a foundation with the toppings being the delectable and sinful touch and the piece de resistance of a fresh, light and tasty dessert.

Who Got The Jazz? : Tribes of Hip Hop by Sons of Liberty
Sons of Liberty is a musical conglomerate based in Jamaica with a hip hop foundation but with a versatility and dexterity that is comparable to hip hop cliques like American based Good Music. With lyrics laced with intelligence and punchlines that are Mayweather nice, their music is authentic with a signature sound.
They released their video for Tribes of Hip Hop, the third single from Escape Theory which is due to be released June 12. The video is prolific without the gimmicks (adjusted punch line from team member King Biggs) with the old school hip- hop treatment with just the team and each member stepping forward to dismember the microphone with their own delivery. The infectious beat (with heavy bass accents and hey ho samples) that attracted this cypher transcends the streets as they walk around asking Who Got the Jazz? and proclaiming that SOL Music make everybody spaz. The shift between the streets to a more close up setting which each member allows you to see what they individually contribute to the group while appreciating what makes them collectively brilliant.
This video and song celebrates the roots of hip hop which was quality music without the distractions of nudity and a fixation on the female form in attempt to disguise the lack of substance. With a coherence stemming from their black SOL shirts to the sense of brotherhood in each scene we believe that you will thoroughly enjoy the word play and music of this video.

Delivery: His stature, flow and name make the comparison to Biggy irresistible but Biggs is expressive with the conviction in his lyrics as he starts off the video on a note of brilliant weaving of words with the intention to slay critics and haters.
Favourite Punch line: Beast with verses, creature on the feature. You ni##as need class for the king to even teach ya

Delivery: The comparative to Big Sean is only founded on the haYze’s sound but lyrically speaking his affinity for constructing visuals of juxtaposition allows you to seesaw between a calming delivery and menacing lyrics.
Favourite Punch line: Pour me a cup of that Jack Daniels and toast to the night and the ni##as that I came with.
Team Member: The Therapist (@TheTherapistSOL)
Delivery: His self-professed hectic and reckless delivery only gives you micro-seconds before the ensuing knock out of each punch line. The conceited and laid back flow like his predecessors makes for a nice compliment.
Favourite Punch line: Rhyming and spitting that greasy bars and keep that cold mic fried up.

Delivery: The youth in his voice does not impact the maturity in his lyrics as he comfortably pulls the pin out of the grenade with a lyrical explosiveness that reaches a crescendo once he starts to speak on his love for his team.
Favourite Punch line: Get a twitter ni##a only way you can follow it. Otherwise you just a witness like I’m Jordan back in ‘96
Team Member: Ultra Rush (@TheRushSOL)
Delivery: This gifted mc wants you to hear every word and rhyme that enunciates his skill and affinity for coming up with great lyrics. The tempo allows for the synchronicity between his talent and your appreciation.
Favourite Punch line: Young smart and lifted, speak with confidence filled with talents I’m gifted; and I am not packing strapped with the flow, speaking you so you hear it but you see it cuz I glow.
Team Member: 5 Star (@5StarSOL)
Delivery: With a kiss teeth introduction and a defiance of the hip hop foundation laid by his team members, 5 Star’s delivery and locks make the comparison to Junior Gong irresistible. His boyish good looks become deceptive once he starts to unleash the lyrical beast caged behind his lyrics and the signature gun-finga.
Favourite Punch line: Slick with my vernacular, no guy can handle, girls love me dem say a cute like an angle. Ironic cus me hotter than 90 degrees and I am sick I’m so sick I cannot fight the disease.
